This blog is for the new direction my wood carving art is taking me. To the canvas and easel. As I have learned, almost all color theory is found in canvas based art. I found that as I was reading how to employ for a carving, I had the urge to buy a canvas and just give it a try. You will find mostly a loose or impressionistic style as the two concepts of color and composition are dominant. That works for me.

Holz Farm Out Building
I thought great, an old farm with weathered outbuildings to paint. At least thats what the online description sounded like. However, when I arrived, it was to all freshly painted buildings.
So I have my own critique. I failed to demonstrate good 2-point linear perspective in doing this shed, Arrrrgh. Oh well. So much to learn. I really worked hard on Color and completely did not see.

First Post - Taking Art Class
So my big announcement is that for the first time in my life, I am going to take an art class. Not that I don't consider the carving classes art, but this time, I have a supply list that includes 12 canvas panels which means I guess that I will be painting 12 paintings. May be a bit much as I dont even know where I will keep them while they are drying. The instructor is Marc Hanson. Mark is pretty well known in Plein Air Circles (at least I think so) and gets around to Plein air festivals throughout the US. His art is amazing. I am so looking forward to this. Anyway, I will post as I complete painting. With any luck, they will get better.
